1. Who we are

SoberWell is a recovery companion app for people working a 12-step programme. SoberWell is a trading name of Lawsons Enterprises Ltd, Company No: 16433965, registered in England and Wales. We are the data controller for your personal data. For any data-related queries, contact us at hello@soberwell.app.

2. What data we collect

When you create an account and use SoberWell, we may process:
  • Your email address (used to sign you in via a secure link)
  • A username you choose — never your real name
  • Your recovery information: clean dates, the substances you choose to track, milestones, check-ins, and notes you record
  • Step work journals you write and choose to share with a sponsor
  • Private messages between you and your sponsor or sponsee
  • Basic technical data needed to keep the app working securely

3. Special category data

Information about your recovery, substance use, and mental health is “special category” data under UK GDPR. We only process it with your explicit consent, solely to provide the features you choose to use, and we never share it with advertisers or sell it to anyone.

4. Why we collect it and our lawful basis

We process your data to provide the SoberWell service you have asked for. Our lawful basis is your consent, and for special category data your explicit consent, which you give by creating an account and choosing to use each feature. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your data or closing your account.

5. Anonymity

Anonymity is built in. We never ask for or store your real name, and SoberWell is never connected to social media. Your sponsor and sponsee only ever see the username you choose.

6. Authentication

SoberWell uses passwordless sign-in. We send a secure, single-use link to your email address — there is no password for you to remember or for us to store.

7. How we store it

Your data is stored securely with Supabase, hosted in the European Union (Ireland). Supabase uses industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third party for their own purposes.

8. How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your data at any time, and we will remove it. If you close your account, your personal data is deleted.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, and to withdraw consent or object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@soberwell.app and we will respond within 30 days. You can also lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk.

10. Cookies

We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. We use only the minimal storage required to keep you signed in and the app working.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app develops. Where changes are significant, we will let you know within the app or by email.
